EAT FROM THE EARTH

I love the philosophy that humans should be eating closer to nature. The primal approach makes tremendous sense to me. If we were living in the forest, we wouldn’t be eating out of boxes from the supermarket, would we?
If we were living in the forest, we would be eating mostly plants, the occasional animal shared amongst our community, and we would inevitably have periods of intermittent fasting. Our food would be varied depending on the season and level of accessibility. We would eat more intuitively – only when we are hungry, and only what we need to thrive sustainably. We would be connected to the food we consume, grateful for the energy it provides us. This is the foundation that I build my practice around: the idea that we, at our very core, are animals of the Earth. A call to return to our primal roots.
When we begin to shift our perspective towards nourishing ourselves in a more connected way, it becomes quite clear what we need to do in order to move into a more vibrant state of living. It’s important to ask ourselves: what doesn’t fit into the primal puzzle?
Processed grains and dairy, sugar, unhealthy fats and oils, chemical additives, artificial flavours and colours, pesticides, monocrop and GMO produce – all of these modern-day “solutions” have created a major disconnect in our eating patterns. We see now a rise in diet-related illness such as diabetes, heart disease, gut dysbiosis, irritable bowel syndrome, cancer, thyroid dysfunction, ADD/ADHD, Alzheimer’s, dementia, anxiety, depression, neurological disorders – just to name a few. We have all become walking, talking participants in a wide-scale experiment that about 50 years down the road now appears to be delivering alarming results.
It’s about time we took back sovereignty over the miraculous vehicle that we inhabit. Our body can do so much for us when we provide the right internal environment for it to thrive. We simply have to start giving it the love and care it deserves in order to reap the massive and life-long rewards of vibrant health.
I don’t believe in dieting or restriction, neither do I agree with the idea that vital nutrition has anything to do with exact portions, numbers or calculations. I do believe, however, in moving towards a more intuitive and mindful relationship with the food we eat – one that evolves from proper education and understanding of what our body requires in order to thrive rather than survive. When we become attentive to how we can more effectively attain higher states of health and well-being, we evolve into the masters of our lives. High vibe nutrition overflows and sets the foundations for a high vibe life – the food we eat quite literally becomes who we are and inevitably affects the way we present ourselves to the world. When our food is alive, so too will we radiate outwards the vibration and energy of radiant Life.
The following is a general outline of the Live Eat Breathe philosophy regarding the types of food we should be consuming and the quality we should gravitate towards:
- Organic and pesticide-free
- Locally sourced whenever possible
- Vibrant and fresh
- Eat the rainbow – variety is key!
- Should make up the larger part of our diet
- Eat ALIVE! Soaked and sprouted nuts, seeds and legumes are magic!
- Lots of gut-supportive fermented foods (i.e. sauerkraut, kimchi, pickles, tempeh etc.)
Looks like: a wide variety of fruits and vegetables (such as dark leafy greens, root vegetables, cruciferous vegetables etc.), and includes fungi, legumes, nuts and nut butters, seeds, fresh herbs, wild plants, plant-based oils etc.
- Aim to consume no more than 2-3 times a week
- Wild, pastured, and/or grass-fed whenever possible
- Minimal processing (i.e. bones and skin intact)
- Make use of all parts (i.e. save bones for slow-brewed bone broth, include properly prepared organ meats when possible etc.)
- Dairy: only consumed when raw, unpasteurized and/or fermented
- Honour life – keep gratitude in mind always
Looks like: wild-caught fish, wild game, grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, pastured pork etc.
- High-quality and bioavailable
- Earth-based nutrients over synthetic
- Used only as nutritional intervention to support and/or prevent deficiency
Looks like: fish oils, food-based multivitamins, bioavailable minerals (i.e. liquid magnesium), fermented greens powders, superfoods, herbal remedies etc.
